What is our objective?

The objective of the Heytesbury Recreation Ground Trust (HRGT) is to safeguard - for future generations - the important historical connections between Siegfried Sassoon and the game of cricket being played on the Heytesbury parkland by purchasing and maintaining the parkland as a recreation ground, the principal purpose of which is to enable the enjoyment of sporting and other outdoor activities for the benefit of the Heytesbury village community, and to protect, in perpetuity, the parkland from commercial development.

We are the Heytesbury Recreation Ground Trust (HRGT). The Trust is a charitable incorporated organisation – or CIO number 1208204. It was established by a group of concerned Heytesbury villagers in 2024 as a response to widespread Heytesbury parishioner concern that the Heytesbury parkland [map] was in danger of being lost to the village through a commercial sale.

The Trust represents a wide cross-section of local parishioners and their families, who believe in the importance of preserving the Heytesbury parkland that has played such a central and historic role in village life for many decades.

Our trust was created with a straightforward purpose: to secure this valuable green space for generations to come. Our aim is to maintain the parkland's natural character while ensuring it continues to serve as a venue for cricket, football and other community activities. As a registered charity, we can accept donations efficiently, with all funds directed toward purchasing and (if successful) maintaining the land.

We at the Heytesbury Recreation Ground Trust need to raise £330,000 to secure the parkland for our community. This sum covers the vendor's asking price, all associated purchase costs including surveys and tax obligations, plus initial set-up costs should we be successful. We have established a GoFundMe campaign for donations of any size, which are gratefully received. For those wishing to contribute larger amounts of £1,000 or more, we would ask you to contact us directly to arrange your donation. This approach helps us to minimise fees and maximise the impact of substantial contributions. Every pound brings us closer to our objective of preserving this important space for current and future generations. Please do consider supporting our efforts if you can.
